Description: Here is a brief overview of my project:
The first phase of my project involves creating a virtual, interactive map of the Alamo Cemetery with all of the veteran graves marked, including a description of each veteran. This will make it easier for visitors to locate veteran graves in the cemetery. The second phase of my project involves installing proper graves markers for the more than 250 veterans buried at the cemetery, clearly signifying their status as a veteran and honoring their service to our country.
As you may know, I have already completed Days 1 and 2 of my Eagle Project, where we were successfully able to create the virtual map of the Alamo Cemetery. We also raised more than $2,000 to purchase the grave markers and flags for the 250 veterans buried at the cemetery. Thank you to those of you who participated in Days 1 & 2 of my project, as well as to those who donated to the fundraiser.
For Day 3 of my project, we will be installing the grave markers and flags to all the veteran graves at the cemetery. At the moment, there aren’t any markers at each veteran grave that signify that they were veterans, so they don’t receive the recognition that they deserve. These high-quality grave markers will indicate to visitors that a grave hosts a veteran, and will truly be able to honor these men and women who have served our country.
I will need around 14-16 scouts for this project, 5 of which must be 14+ years of age. Scouts will earn 7-8 hours of service from this project. Snacks/drinks will be provided.
What to bring:
– Medical A & B and Activity Consent Forms
– Water bottle (32oz or more)
– Closed-toe shoes
– Comfortable clothing for warm weather
– Sunscreen
– Hat
– Work gloves
– Hammer/Mallet (if you have one)
– Small garden shovel (if you have one)
